On the night of Nov. 24, 1928, Al DeRuiter, a 21-year-old Colton pilot, had just landed his airplane at fog-shrouded Tri City Airport. As he exited the airport onto Redlands Boulevard in his old Ford touring car he heard an airplane circling overhead.
