SAN FRANCISCO (AFX) -- Led by a 6.8% gain in Northwest Airlines shares, airline stocks turned higher in afternoon trading Friday and paced a broad market upturn. The Amex Airline Index rose 3.9% to 48.03 points, wiping out the holiday- shortened week's losses.
