(AFX UK Focus) 2005-08-19 14:58 GMT: Amex Airline Index opens weakly, Northwest slips (Interactive Investor)

SAN FRANCISCO (AFX) -- Airline stocks traded lower in early action Friday as Northwest Airlines fell 2.4% to $5.35 with its mechanics union poised to strike early Saturday. The Amex Airline Index fell 0.5% to 49.65 points, with ExpressJet Holdings the only advancer in the group.
